Sacraments
As Trinity’s governing body, the church Session determines when sacraments are administered.
The Presbyterian Church recognizes two sacraments, defined as those church rituals that were “instituted by Christ”: Baptism and the Lord’s Supper (also known as “communion”). Baptism requests may be submitted to the pastor for approval by the Session.
Usually, Trinity serves communion at least quarterly in its two worship services, and especially on:
- The First Sunday of Lent
- Maundy Thursday (evening service)
- The Second Sunday in September
- World Communion Sunday (First Sunday in October)
- The Sunday before Thanksgiving
- Christmas Eve (evening service)
Other Christian churches may consider Weddings and Funerals to be sacraments. However, the Presbyterian Church classifies them as special Worship Services.
